New Brunswick’s own Adam Spray was recently presented with the 2023 Tennis Canada On-Court Officiating Excellence Award. Congratulations Adam!
These awards, which are presented annually at the National Bank Open, are given to a select few across the country. The Excellence Awards highlight the outstanding dedication and accomplishments made by those in the Canadian tennis development, coaching and officiating.
Adam started his passion for tennis at a young age and was encouraged by his mother who had some significant tennis accomplishments within her family. Adam has been a player, a coach, and an official which has allowed him the perspective needed to deal with issues that can happen during tennis matches. As a player Adam has captured several New Brunswick titles as well as acting as a hitting partner for some of our competitive junior players. As a coach Adam has completed his Club Pro 1 (2nd level of certification) and he has done some significant coaching with players who are now competing at a very high level.
Adams officiating journey began with his certification in May of 2022 and since then he has made huge strides in the officiating scene. Starting as a roving official for our Junior Atlantic Circuit to being asked to chair matches at the most recent J300 in Repentigny is a truly outstanding achievement. Some of his other notable accomplishments include but are not limited to; officiating at Junior Nationals, officiating at ATP Challenger Events, officiating at W25/75 Professional Women’s Events, Chair-Assistant at 2024 National Bank Open, officiating/chairing at our $10,000 NB Open.
It is these kinds of success stories which we hope may inspire others to pursue officiating. It is truly a fun way to travel and see tennis at all levels from the best seat in the house.
