The dust has finally settled on the $10,000 NB Open which was hosted at the Rothsay Tennis Club this last weekend. Tucked away on a little side street called “Tennis Court Road”, this beautiful and modest 4 court facility (Rothesay Tennis Club) was able to host one of the largest open prize money events in the nation.
With prize money this significant and with it being a ‘conditional 1,000’ ranking point event for the Men’s Open Singles it certainly drew a crowd. But it’s not always the ranking points or prize money that keep players coming back to this event year after year. The environment for the players is unmatched in large part due to the staff and volunteers that make this event so special and this year it was elevated further by including two presenting sponsors to the event; ForFitness and Athletics & Yip Cider. These sponsors took the event to the next level with the addition of on-site physio and massage available to players as well as local Cider available for players to have for the duration of the event! National Bank was also on-site providing some players gifts along with beverages that were enjoyed by all.

Part of creating an event like this is making players and spectators feel ‘at home’. Penny and Daryl Buck (Family Ties Playcare) really embraced this idea while hosting a large BBQ on Saturday and providing refreshments to the players. And their daycare children created a heartwarming poster for the event as well!
