Tennis NB held it’s first sanctioned competitive event in more than 3 months this past weekend since Covid-19 shut down the province. This tournament was among the first in the country to take place since play was suspended. To help ensure safety, measures have been put in place to offer a series of “Modified Tournaments” over the next 4 weeks with the first tournament held in Shamrock Park in Saint John which wrapped up today. These events are offering only a limited number of divisions and restricting draws sizes as well to manage the number of players and spectators and to ensure physical distancing can be maintained. Other on-court changes to the game are also in place to minimize any risk associated with play. The following are the final results:
Men’s Open Singles: Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis) def. Jeff Bodner (Moncton) 6/0, 6/2
Men’s Open Singles Consolation: Justin Simpson (Saint John) def. Nicholas Lam (Moncton) 1/6, 6/3, 17/15
Men’s 40+ Men’s Singles: Gary Jessome (Rothesay) def. Matt Morrison (Quispamsis) 6/0, 6/0
